Rooted in Jesus

Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” Matthew 28.18-20 |

Rooted in Jesus is a group course in Christian
discipleship. It exists in three formats:
1. A group discipleship course for Africa
Rooted in Jesus was first developed to meet the
needs of the people of the Diocese of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It
is the only material of its kind written especially for the use of
ordinary African Christians, rather than translated from material
developed for the West, where people face different problems and
challenges in their Christian lives. Based on scripture memory and
highly interactive and practical, it is not a study course but one
which invites people to enter together into a living, growing and
dynamic relationship with Jesus. It has been translated into many
languages and is now in use in 11 African countries.
2. A youth discipleship course for Africa
Rooted in Jesus Junior follows the syllabus of the
first two books of the adult course, and is designed for use with young
people of 8-16 years of age in Sunday Schools, youth groups and
Confirmation classes.
2 Timothy 2.1-2
3. A group discipleship course for the UK
There are many discipleship materials available for use in the West, and most of them offer a mix of theological education and theological reflection; they are essentially study courses of one kind or another. Rooted in Jesus is not a study course; its aim is to help groups of people to enter into a practical relationship with Jesus and to grow in that relationship to the point where they become his living witnesses, dependent on the Holy Spirit and active in ministry to others. This is as much a need here in the UK as it is in Africa. And so, building on our experience with Rooted in Jesus, we have developed a similar course for use in the UK. The series title is The God Who Is There, and the first book, Beyond Ourselves, is now available. Beyond Ourselves will be followed by The New Community and Shining Like Stars.
Beyond Ourselves is is intended for use in small groups and as an alternative or follow-up to Alpha. To preview Beyond Ourselves please click here. If you would like to find out more about the training and support we offer to those using The God Who Is There please contact the office.

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
whose trust is in the Lord.
They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.
It shall not fear whenheat comes,
and its leaves shall stay green;
in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit. |

Practicalities
Rooted in Jesus has involved many people in the writing, and many more in its introduction through small ministry teams to dioceses and denominations in Africa. Still others have prayed for those using it, and helped to finance it. A Rooted in Jesus coordinator is appointed by each African diocese, and it is through their support and encouragement that the group leaders have been able to implement what is a very new approach to ministry.
Rooted in Jesus for Africa is edited and directed by
Alison Morgan. The God Who Is There is edited by Roger Morgan, working with Anita
Benson.
