Thankfulness

Thankfulness is part of the Christian way of life. We thank God for what he has done for us, for our daily bread, for the victory over death, and for his anointing on our ministry. We thank God too for the love we receive from others, and for the faithful companionship of colleagues and co-workers. We thank other people for their good deeds, for what they have given to us, and for the way they have made sacrifices for us. We can express our thanks in prayer and in song when alone and when we meet. We also find that thankfulness is the key to handing over our fears to God.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; So I am helped, and my heart exults, And with my song I give thanks to him.

Psalm 28.7

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him, tell of all his wonderful works.

1 Chronicles 16.14

Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 5.19-20

Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

1 Corinthians 11.23-24

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15.56-57

As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him… They were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself and Jesus’ feet and thanked him.

Luke 17.11,15

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5.18

(Rodney Stoke is one the few villages in this country to have lost none of the men who went away to the first World War. They are known as the ‘thankful villages’.)

Thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him.

2 Corinthians 2.14

In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.

Colossians 1.3-5

I am grateful to God.. when I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.

2 Timothy 1.3

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4.6

And all the angels stood around the throne.. and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, singing, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

Revelation 7.11-12

Please join with all of us at ReSource in offering our thanks to God for his continued provision for us, for his leading and blessing, his teaching and guiding and healing. We thank him too for the privilege of being allowed to join in with what he is doing amongst his people. And we thank you, our friends and co-workers, for your companionship on the journey in ways seen and unseen, known and unknown.
Amen

ReSource has a simple policy: when we pray, things happen. This is not a lippy, meaningless policy - we've found out through trial and error! When God's children pray; people get healed, coincidences occur with statistical impossibility, lives are saved, governmental policies change; God moves in a thousand ways (not all of them mysterious!). If you'd like to hear some examples or share some of your own, just get in touch.

If you would like to join the ReSource Prayer network and receive a regular copy of our Prayer Diary, please contact the office.
