Holy Week Sanctuary Hours BOOK NOW!1 year ago
I am delighted to be leading some devotional hours each evening through Holy Week, all at 7.00pm, from Palm Sunday, 28 March, through to Easter Day on 4 April.
If you would like to join me for one or more of these, CLICK HERE to book in free of charge, and we will send you a Zoom link by email that you can use for one or all of the Sanctuary Hours.
I’m really hoping that you will be able to come along as we make a journey together along the rugged terrain that leads to Calvary and the empty tomb, and as we look to go deeper into the truth and mystery of the cross and resurrection of Jesus.
Do think about joining me on the road!
The cross is God’s greatest saving act and self-disclosure and the resurrection is the first glimmering of an entirely new creation. Both have within them layer upon layer upon layer of meaning that even with a lifetime’s study and reflection we shall never entirely grasp in their entirety. But every year, Holy Week gives us the opportunity to go a little bit deeper, to understand a little bit more fully, to see a little bit more clearly and to respond to this astonishing revealing of God’s love a little bit more adequately.
So that, in summary, is my hope for Holy Week 2021. That I, we together, will so enter into the story and the mystery of these profound moments in the world’s history, that we come away with a deeper grasp of what God was doing there, and with a greater love for the One who died and rose again for us and for our salvation.
It feels to me that if we are to go that little bit deeper, then we need to get closer to the action and under the skin of the main participants in the drama. So, we shall look at the Characters around the Cross, from the most malign to the most attractive, and look, through their eyes, to the central Character who gave Himself for us at such great cost.
A song I discovered a few years ago has this refrain ”Undone by mercy and left speechless, watching wide-eyed at the cost, may I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross”. In some ways these words sum up my hope and my prayer for Holy Week 2021. That we might ‘go deeper’ into the wonder and mystery of the cross and resurrection, and that seeing ‘such mercy’ we shall never be the same again.
