Support to Church Leaders1 month ago
The Chairman and Director of ReSource write to you to offer our support as you lead the church through uncharted waters, at this significant time.
Dear Church Leader
"Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you'."
We are writing to you at this significant moment in our church’s life to offer our support as you lead the church through uncharted waters. The staff and Trustees of ReSource are keen to provide tangible means of support to you on the frontline.
These are unsettling and disorienting days for those of us in church leadership. Life and ministry suddenly feel very different. When we most want to be out and about supporting people in a time of painful dislocation and uncertainty, we can’t do so in ways that would have come naturally to us just a few weeks ago. We can’t recall a comparable period in recent history when church leaders in the UK have had to adapt so quickly to a whole new way of being and to such a different way of leading church.
It is heartening to see how upbeat many of you are in this changing landscape and how creative you are being in developing new ways of worship, teaching and providing pastoral care. The church has an astonishing capacity to adapt itself to ever-new contexts, and our prayer has to be that we will emerge from all this as a humbler, more compassionate, more faithful church, better able to engage with a world that has come face to face with its vulnerability and need of God.
We are writing now to assure you of our prayers and also to offer the support of our confidential Intercessors’ Network. If you have specific things that you would like our intercessors to pray for over the coming months, either for you personally or for the churches you lead, please drop us a line on [email protected] or on 01952 371300.
We would also like to offer you the support of one of our team of experienced Companions who would be delighted to be alongside you through the coming months - a ‘friend in need’, who would be completely committed to journey with you in the unique challenges you will be facing. We would love to provide this as an entirely free service to any who would value it. Please just give the ReSource Office a call and we can put this in place very speedily. Our Companions would be on hand to chat by phone or video call as often as you wish.
We hope that you have journeyed well through Holy Week and that you will find deep meaning and joy in this year’s celebration of Easter. The visit of the risen Jesus to the disciples on the evening of the first day of the week will have a special resonance this year, locked as they were, and many of us are, behind closed doors.
May Jesus step into our locked-away places, our hidden places of fear, uncertainty, doubt even, and bring his peace and breathe his Holy Spirit.
While we feel keenly the pain and hurt of the world, and weep with those who weep, and serve as best we can, let’s sing the Lord’s victory song, even in this strange coronavirus land and explore, in a spacious place, the freedom for which Christ, at such great cost, has set us free.
“Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.”’
With love and prayer,
Kevin and +John
