Get to know Revd Phil Stone
Phil has been Director and Community Leader of the Scargill Community since 2010, following its resurrection. Scargill House is the home of an international ecumenical Christian Community in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Phil and Di (his wife) have worked together to grow the ministry at Scargill which has been nurturing a Community which has grown from about half a dozen to now 37. Scargill’s heart is about ‘lives shared- lives transformed’ with Jesus at the centre, with the deep desire to see people grow in their love for God and see renewal in the church. The Community does this by offering hospitality and teaching to churches and individuals who come to Scargill, through a wide-ranging program of events. Within the lives shared at Scargill, creativity, vulnerability and laughter are embraced, with this is the desire to see the Kingdom grow.
Phil and Di have four children, six grandchildren and a puppy dog who has just entered the teenage phase! They enjoy the cinema, reading, walking the Dales, art galleries and sitting down wasting time with friends. Before coming to Scargill, Phil was a Team Rector and Area Dean in London, having done 22 years of inner-city ministry. During this time Phil and Di both led the Lee Abbey Youth Camp in Devon for many years. Before Phil was ordained they both worked with single homeless in the East End.
