After 5 years as a maths teacher up to University Scholarship level and 23 in parish work in Sheffield and Aylesbury, Don was National Director of SOMA UK from1994 until his retirement in 2007. During that time sought to develop SOMA's work in areas of conflict –in Rwanda, South Sudan, and more recently in DR Congo.
Working in areas of acute post-conflict trauma has led Don to extend some of the ideas in the field of Healing and Wholeness which he articulated when he trained teams in healing and counselling in a parish situation.
In addition, SOMA has become convinced of the need to see the work of the Holy Spirit as not just affecting individuals and congregations, but communities and nations. Don has written a teaching manual entitled Renewal for Life on what he calls "the internal logic of renewal" - how different aspects of renewal interact for the extension of the kingdom of God.
In his final years as SOMA UK National Director Don was instrumental in taking international teams of young people to Nairobi and Kampala to demonstrate their Christian witness in serving the local communities by cleaning the streets, performing open-air drama and testimony.
Don has been involved with Anglican Renewal Ministries (now ReSource) since its foundation in 1981. He is involved in his local church, and is at present working with the Readers in the local Team Ministry, to assist them and the team in the most effective use of their spiritual gifts. He is also involved in community work through the local Parish Council.
Don and his wife Sandra met at West Runton Scripture Union Camp. They have been married for over 50 years. They have 3 grown-up children and 6 grandchildren.
